60s Inspired Dress

I have to say, I am a big fan of the mod look from the 60s!  I think A-lines are just so cute on little girls and those vintage-y floral prints??  Swoon-inducing.  I was given a big stack of old patterns and there were some seriously adorable little girl dress patterns that I just had to try!  Another favorite of mine is sewing with vintage sheets!  First off, you get a ton of "yardage," sometimes for just a couple bucks!  Secondly, the patterns cannot be beat.  The big, bright florals, funky patterns...it's so fun to hit the thrift store and see what you can find!  

I decided to try this little A-line dress and I love how it turned out.  I hate reading commercial patterns, and so I used the pattern pieces to get the basic size and shape of the dress and collar, but I fully lined it and basically used my own techniques for putting it together.  I added some fun little yo-yos with center buttons along the top collar and voila!  One adorable little 60s inspired dress! 

First Post!

Ah, the awkward first post.  What to say?  Hi!  Nice to meet you, thousands of people who are jumping to read this blog!  Or not..

A little about me should work for starters, I suppose!  My name is Amanda.  I have been married for nearly 10 years to my awesome husband, who I love more every day.  I am a stay at home mom to the most gorgeous, fun, sweet, smart and hilarious identical twin daughters.  It is so much fun to be their mom!  They just turned 18 months old, so things are getting wilder by the minute around here!  I love God, my family, creating things, reading, music and being with friends.  I graduated from a Christian college with a degree in music, but I've never really used it.  I'm quite content doing what I do!  

I started sewing when I was a teenager.  My sister-in-law is a quite fabulous seamstress who taught me the basics and I've just run with it since then.  There was a pretty big hiatus for me when I was working full time, but once the girls came along, I picked it back up and am enjoying it tremendously!  I have made several things for the girls and when some friends wanted to buy pieces for their own daughters, I decided to try to make it a home business!  I started an Etsy shop with one of my best friends who knits and together we create some fun things for kids, adults...anyone really!  I decided to blog so I would have a place besides Facebook to share some of my pieces and the creative process behind what I create.  I hope you enjoy reading about what I make.  I can't promise to be a super faithful blogger...I spent most of my youth starting journals and realizing 6 months later that I hadn't kept up with it.  However, I will try to post at least once a week.  I am excited to join the Kids Week Clothes Challenge from elsiemarley.com in October, so that will motivate me to post, I hope!  Welcome and thanks for reading!
